1. What should I wear onboard?
During daytime excursions, we recommend smart-casual clothing, a waterproof jacket, and comfortable walking shoes. For dinners, formal attire is suggested: dark suit, tuxedo, or kilt for gentlemen, and cocktail dress or tartan-inspired wear for ladies.
2. What’s included in the journey fare?
Your fare includes a private en-suite cabin, all gourmet meals, selected wines and spirits, onboard entertainment, excursions, and (for some cabin categories) spa treatments and private transfers.
3. Is Wi-Fi available on the train?
Yes, Wi-Fi is available in the Observation Car. Please note that due to the remote nature of some regions, the connection may be intermittent throughout the journey.
4. Can I smoke onboard?
No. Smoking and vaping are not permitted anywhere on the train, including the Observation Car, in accordance with Scottish law.
5. Are children allowed onboard?
Yes, children are welcome. Infants under 2 travel free. For families, we recommend booking connecting cabins or a Grand Suite. Please note the onboard atmosphere is adult-oriented, and children’s access to certain areas is at the Train Manager’s discretion.
6. What luggage can I bring?
We recommend one suitcase and one carry-on per guest. Twin cabins have under-bed storage (71 cm x 23 cm). Additional luggage can be stored at The Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh.
7. Can dietary needs be accommodated?
Yes. Please inform us in advance of any allergies or dietary restrictions. We cater to vegetarian, vegan, and other preferences with notice. Meals requiring strict religious preparation cannot be guaranteed.
8. Are there medical facilities onboard?
No. There is no onboard medical staff. Crew can assist in reaching pharmacies or arranging medical care if needed. Comprehensive travel insurance is strongly advised.
9. Where and how do I check in?
Check-in takes place at The Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh, between 11:00 and 12:15, prior to departure. Luggage is handed to the concierge for transfer to your cabin.
10. Do I need a passport or visa?
Yes. Non-UK residents must have a passport valid for at least 6 months after travel. Depending on your nationality, a visa may be required to enter the UK. Please check with your embassy or travel advisor.
